Geneva Rock plan gets tentative OK from state
The state has given tentative approval to Geneva Rock's proposal to expand mining operations at its 190-acre Point of the Mountain quarry.
State regulators have already issued air- and water-quality permits for a plan that the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining said includes a "total disturbance" of 288 acres.
"Mining of bedrock will be conducted by ripping, drilling, blasting and excavation/hauling," said Dana Dean, the division's associate director over mining.
Dean's public notice Monday of his division's tentative decision has opened up a 30-day written protest period. Comments can be sent to Dean at Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, 1594 W. North Temple, Suite 1210, Box 145801, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-5801.
