Fantastic Fratelli’s

Owners Dave and Pete Cannella have created the perfect place to enjoy everything Italian. And after having dinner at Fratelli’s I thought I would need three columns to sing its praises.

Located in the Walmart and Lowe’s shopping center on 9400 east in Sandy the restaurant is situated on the end of one of the exterior islands. Good parking, an attractive set of surroundings and the presence of a real life Vespa out front set the stage for the pleasures to come.

Fratelli’s is a moderately priced and cozy restaurant that satisfies tastes from casual to fancy. One of things I really like is that the entrée price includes a lovely house salad that features tasty lettuce, garbanzo beans, mushrooms as well as cucumbers and tomatoes. Even better than the salad itself is the complementary Granita. made on site by the chef. Granita is a marvelous Italian ice that is served between the salad and the entrée as a palette cleanser. On the night we were there, the flavor was a lovely, slightly tart lemon seasoned with rosemary. In addition to the taste, the serving was adorned with a sprig of fresh rosemary and draped with a paper thin lemon slice, just as beautiful to behold as it was tasty to eat.

We found the staff to be welcoming, friendly, and just the right degree of solicitous. Manager Karen Hansen definitely turns her extensive experience in the restaurant business into a real treat for the customers. All of the staff were well informed on the normal entrees as well as the specials and at every turn, wanted to be of service.

All servings come out of the kitchen on simple and elegant pure white dinner ware which provides a wonderful and artistic contrast to the deep red, beige and brown Tuscan décor. At the entry way, diners are treated to a lovely clear glass water feature and just the right mix of soft pop classics and Italian semi-classical music played at the perfect volume to create and maintain yet another sensory pleasure.

I have to admit it, try as I might I could not pass up the Eggplant Parmesan which among other wonderful ingredients, contained paper thin slices of zucchini. My husband Tom chose the Rigatoni with Sausage. The food was absolutely scrumptious and the servings were more than ample. In fact, our take home box featured the next night’s entrees at our house.

Fratelli’s has a wonderful collection of appetizers and salads along with the most appealing and tasty sandwiches (yes I have already been back for lunch). There are five selections of pizza, seven pastas, and a hearty collection of entrees, including a yellow fin tuna with citrus pesto.

They have a lovely sampling of desserts as well as a full service bar, unique only because they offer some interesting beers including Peroni and Moretti as well as Stella Artois and Spaten Optimator.

Fratelli’s is located at 9236 South Village Drive and their phone number is 801 495 4550.. They are open for 10-10 Monday through Saturday. Bring in a copy of this article on Monday or Tuesday night and you’ll receive one free bruschetta appetizer for your table.
